I just got a call today and they said the same exact thing stating I received a grant that doesn't need to be paid back because I psy my bills on time. WHAT? It is hard for me to wrap around my head since I was half asleep still lol. My confirmation number was KB1217 and I had to call one of his senior officers and I asked well what's this person's name and he tells me that I don't know which one will answer.. What a joke!! You would know your senior officers name no matter how there are
I received an unknown call yesterday. First, I wasn't around and didn't answer (no voicemail was left), they called again and I ignored it, then they called back immediately. I answered because I was concerned it could be a police officer's cell phone and maybe someone was in an accident. They gave me the same pitch as the others who responded. Ironically, I had the same confirmation number as others - JB140. They also had my name, address, phone number, marital status, and that I didn't have a criminal background. I was also told that I was elected to receive a grant for 10k because I fit into a very specific demographic category. I was told I would receive the money through Western Union (very weird because the government generally uses checks). I called the number today, just to see what kind of crap they would say. They tried hard, but they didn't get me. The number I called was 360-335-3091 and I proceeded to yell at the man about the fact that I figured out it was a scam and I was going to report them.
Seems this person has changed the scam. The above posts states the number is calling about federal grant money but the automated message I got states that the IRS has filed a lawsuit against me..lol. I find it funny that the IRS would contact me in this way and no official papers have been ever served..lol. I submitted a report of this scam to my attorney general's office.
My call this morning was automated, so I didn't listen carefully, but the gist of it was that I was in some kind of trouble with the IRS. I knew I wasn't, and I knew the IRS wouldn't phone me (well, aside from the thank-you I get every May). Still, I was alarmed that someone'd try to scam us. Called FCC and couldn't report the number or get action, then re-registered my phones with the do-not-call system, 888-382-1222. Then I appreciated your comments.
