Caller claimed to work for the Federal Government. Stated her reason for calling was due to a Government supported grant given to 1500 people in my area that the Government found to be of good standing, having never filed bankruptcy, paying bills on time, and never have been convicted of a crime. Caller stated the grant money was total $9,200. Caller stated said money would never have to be repaid, nor any taxes taken out. She went on to ask me what it is I would do with the money. She then gave me a confirmation number to use with the phone number she then gave me and stated this number (206-855-5055) was the number to a line with the United States Treasury. She further stated the money would be in my checking account within 10 minutes, and told me not to worry about anything that it was not a scam. She had a very strong accent. It appeared to be of one who spoke Spanish, but clearly not Indian. She would state a sentence and constantly ended each with "Ok????"
I played dumb and immediately did a reverse phone search. The number she gave me is located in Bainbridge Island, WA. The name of the Company is "Quest Corporation". I am assuming they tapped into a line of a business.
I then contacted the local FBI. Agent stated this is a serious scam and reports coming in daily. Agent then gave me 2 phone numbers one being to the Federal Trade Commission and Treasury and encouraged me to give all information to them and make a report, as any information citizens are willing to give will aid them in finding out who is in this operation
Same as all the other comments. Except when I called back, due to hung up when I answered. It was a game of who is on first; you called me the middle eastern accented man said. Arguing. Finally I said; look what do you want--he said from Gov't grant dept I "won" a $9,200.00 gov't grant. I played the give me more of YOUR information, he got a name out of me and said we are depositing your money then hung-up.
I called back and asked the man for the supervisor he said three times; "why" I said because of my grant. A woman got on the phone after a minute of breathing in the phone and very unprofessionally said, what do you want. I said I would like the address of this gov't agency. She paused and asked why. I was googling the number at this point and saw these posts and told her she was lying and this is a scam. The man jumped back on the phone and said something like; you spoke with my supervisor, you called me. I then proceeded to tell him of his scam and said so what do you seek? CC info?? He hung up. I have blocked that number in my phone.
I mean really at least try to act professional or like an agency for crying out loud LOL
This number called my work phone more than 50 times in one day, then 30+ the next day. Now they have changed their number. They are jerks, do not answer! I put them on speaker, they were awful.
