Called by a indian gentleman today from a very noisy call center. Apparently the US Grants Dept wants to give me money. The reason this gets me scared is that they seem legit. They have all of your current info on address, city, name, and will give you "a ID # and security code" to callback "their branch dept manager".
Heres the kicker-- they cannot transfer you. So, its not really true. ANY government agency callcenter can transfer calls and i have been contacted numerous times from the VA or treasurey dept. So-- call the guy and he wants to confirm my name again... At this point just hung up. Scam-- they give u the number to call from the number that just called you. Seems odd? They want account #'s, bank wire, or something to get your social sec#. Be warned.
For the last few weeks I've been getting calls from an unknown number. The first couple were guys with very heavy accents saying I got a grant from the US government for 10k and I immediately hung up. Yesterday I got a call from a woman with also a heavy accent, but she didn't go through the spew of saying I got a grant, just called me a [***] and hung up. Today I got another call saying I was going to get a 8k grant and I went along saying I was living at my current addy for 45 years (not really) and that I was 69 (actually 30). The whole thing is [***] scam. When I told them I had an app to decode unknown numbers, I heard the guy say "oh [***]" and hang up on me.
