"Officer David Williams" from the "IRS" called me this morning and left a message saying that this is the last chance I have to work with him. Called back from another numbers and after his spiel I told him that I know he's not working with the IRS and knew he was lying about the lawsuit and warrant. He then began asking me what I am wearing, my age, and other inappropriate questions, and said it was okay since I knew he wasn't an official. He asked for my location and I told him that I don't give out personal information to anyone and he "promised" he wouldn't misuse any of it (yeah, I'm sure that since he promised, I can totally trust him!). Don't even give this disgusting piece of crap the time of day. Report it to your wireless service or phone company to see if the can block it from their standpoint as well as your own phone's blocking ability. Get these jerks reported and their numbers taken down. Scum of the earth scammers!

"Officer David Williams" called refering to supposed 'tax fraud' and the issuance of warrants. Left his name, David Williams of the Internal Revenue Service, and a call back number. He did -not- leave or offer his badge number as required for IRS agents. Stated this is his last (actually his only) attempt to to reach me and I must respond by today.

IRS Warns of Pervasive Telephone Scam
IR-2013-84, Oct. 31, 2013

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail

Other characteristics of this scam include:

Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:

If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
You can file a complaint using the FTC Complaint Assistant; choose “Other” and then “Imposter Scams.” If the complaint involves someone impersonating the IRS, include the words “IRS Telephone Scam” in the notes.

Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.

The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to [email protected].

I received the same call about 10 minutes ago. It was automated and I originally thought I was speaking to a real person. I called the number back and sure enough it was some gentleman claiming to be an officer David Williams from the IRS and he wanted to know my name first. I asked him to tell me who he wants to talk to or was trying to reach since he called me first. The only thing he could call back to me was my cell phone number. That's red flag number one! He hung up on me when I started questioning him and who he really was and what company he truly represented. He got angry when when I asked this and hung up again. I called back and a different gentleman answered and I asked him the same thing questions. He got frustrated when I told him none of them spoke appropriate English and sounded middle eastern (not to be offensive to all middle easterners though). He then proceeded to tell me that from the years 2009 to 2012 I've kept "popping up" in their system and was being audited and having criminal charges filed against me. I told him this can't be true since I file my taxes appropriately every year and have never owed the government anything. He got angry when I asked him to slow down and speak clearly because I couldn't understand everything he was saying. He got belligerent with me and said oh now you want me to slow down but you were raising your voice at me a moment ago. He then said that after he hangs up on me I wouldn't be able to take them to court or file anything against them. That the conversation was being recorded. I told him to record it by all means and maybe him and his scamming friends will get caught. He cursed at May and hung up. Don't let these people upset you! Don't give them any information at all. The IRS WILL NOT CALL YOUR CELL PHONES! They don't have the manpower to do so. And the other thing is IRS representatives aren't "officers" they're Agents and will give your their government ID numbers when YOU contact them not the other way around. And they're not based out of Washington state. The only reason I picked up is because I have a relative living in Everett and the same area code was displayed when they called. Please don't fall for their lies!
