I got a call from this number same time each day for days and days. Same thing, no one on the other end. So I dared to call it back and a person answered it was for some firefighters fund for injured people or something, didn't get the whole name but I think it sounds a bit scammish. They are hanging up until you get frustrated and call them back at which point they make their pitch, do it gets around the do not call rules. I asked to get off the list and the man sounded nice but we'll see.
This was a call from someone purporting to be a fundraiser. I tried to look up the name that they gave but it was not listed on the Wise Giving Alliance register or the Charity Navigator. ( http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/ or http://www.charitynavigator.org/ ) I think It's a total scam -- cold calling for your money - I doubt that any money would get to the Vets. Really shameful, I'd say.
Caller ID is listed as Service Call. It was some organization called Childrens International for missing teens soliciting money for a drive. I'm sure they got my phone number & address from the phone book because they asked me to confirm it.
I said I couldn't help, I needed help myself. He said "I don't wanna hear it, next call".
He's Rude!!
Your complaint to the Do Not Call list was likely discarded as invalid. This caller is not selling goods or services nor qualifying sales leads for a third party. That is the type of calls that are regulated by the Do Not Call list and solicitations on behalf of charitable organizations are specifically exempt. If you are complaining about dead air or hang up calls, the correct place to complain is the FCC. That said, calls that are a recorded message of any type not introduced by a live operator from a company that you have not given explicit permission to call you can be reported to the DNC folks whether or not you have registered your number with then. However, this caller does not fall into that category either.
