For those of you being harrassed, this website is GOLD re: getting rid of overzealous and illegal collectors (for instance, they can't come back to you 20 years after certain debts etc.).
Once on the website, Clark Howard has a ton of very helpful links to gov't agencies dealing with this sort of stuff.
I've gotten calls from this number at all hours of the day night - as late as 1130pm! I never answer since it is a number that I don't recognize. I Googled the number and found this information. I'm gravely disappointed because my husband and I just bought a bed from Slumberland and the financing is done thru Wells Fargo.. we are not behind in our payments at all.. kind of makes me regret doing business with Slumberland.
They call me every hour or so from one of three numbers, but this one the most. It is Wells Fargo, and I owe the money. I'm not sure what to tell them when they call every day and nothing has changed. I'm still self employed and I still don't know when I'll be able to pay. Mostly I just let it ring and they don't leave messages, so it's not a big deal for me. It's just an auto-dialer, so I don't worry about it too much.
Thanks for the info. Let me say you and many others make great points here. As a matter of our own security and personal protection though none of us should give out our personal sensitive identifying data to anyone who just happens to calls us, after all you never really know who they are or where they are calling from even if their claim sounds valid, and CallerID is no guarantee of who is really calling and from where. Also we dont know what they will do with your data once you talk to them. BE FOREWARNED: There are many scams out there today where someone would love to grab any confirmation over the phone of who you are and some way to identify you so easily.
My decision has been in these horrible economic times that if these collection outfits need something from me they can send me notice to my address of record by postal mail. The phone has been almost useless these days, except for job interviews and a few critical outbound calls. Spending all day on the phone trying to make arrangements with them when there has been no job is nuts, and getting nowhere right now when what we need is to be back to normal with paying work again and a paycheck! Then we have something to offer.... They think we have all day to sit on the phone to talk about what...unemployment?.
Also the new Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) highly restricts how these collectors may behave or what they can do to us. If they are making excessive calls.
Pretty annoying. They call early morning or late evening, never leave a msg. I answered once, the caller said my 1st name and I hung up. I could not figure out who would be calling me from Vancouver, WA and why. Saw many posts saying this number was Wells Fargo which may be true because I have 4 different accounts with them, 2 I have arrangements althoug every month they were still charge me overlimit frees and 1 hasn't been paid since Feb but it was a Tiger Direct Account. I imagine they could be calling about that one or the fact that my arrangements on 2 accounts is probably ending. Why they want to call and act like they know you, I don't know. 360-885-4425 is another number.
I also get calls from 605-782-5040 and 5065 Sioux Falls,SD which I know is Wells Fargo and I believe 515-331-9485 Des Moines, IA is Wells Fargo.
Why I have been called from 3 different area codes from the same company in 4 days I will never know.
If I am unemployed and can't pay and they don't want to help out, why talk to them? They just depress and stress me out more just like AHMSI.
