Got a call from this number. I immediately hit "talk" and "end" on the hand set. The reason that their standard ploy of pretending to get a wrong number is that they are "pre-testing" numbers to see if they are valid (ie. someone answers). If so, then the number goes into a pool of numbers to be sold on the market to other telemarking organizations. Apparently, there's money to be made doing that.
It turns out that the number 402-998-5021 is carried by the company Bandwidth.com. I did call them to report the number, but they just say to go to the website and fill out a complaint through their site.
Called two times back to back. Unsure if Jim called my cell phone or the office number as my office number is currently forwarded to my cell phone. Didn't bother to pick up. Like many others: if I don't recognize a number I don't pick up. Work is different...I have to pick up. But most of the time an internet search browser is open on my computer and I can quickly type the incoming telephone number. If 800notes comes up first I'll let it go to voice mail.
