I checked around. This phone number is 'called' Tea Party Patriots. Apparently they don't have anything to do with the 'tea party'. The common characteristic among the call recipients is that someone in the household (or the address) might have voted for the Republicans (GOP) in one of the last 2 elections. So this number (group) is being used to harass these people till they get fed up with the Tea Party and stop supporting it.
I can't get more information to find out if this is a Democratic funded scammer or someone doing it on his own funds to try help the Democrats.
Remember the IRS!
Maybe, this is a variant on the same kind of harassment.
If it is really the Tea Party calling, they would wait to talk to you about their cause and ask for your support or at least, for a donation. This number just calls till you want to pull your hair out. No other intent behind it.
They have nothing to do with the Tea Party. They are a democrat front group trying to steal money from people they disagree with. The same way Obama seaked the IRS on republican groups.
The sane things to do with these calls are let them go to voice-mail (any call you don't recognize). If they actually leave a message it may be a legit caller (rarely happens). For me that is about one in a thousand unrecognized calls. Block the nuisance calls using a call blocking phone or "Ooma premium" has the ability to set your own call blocking (while saving money on your phone bill if you have high-speed Internet service). It can automatically block known nuisance calls also. I have noticed little difference being on the Do Not Call list- except that two telemarketers that used to call, stopped once I identified and reported them; they were fined...
Do a google search for SIT (special information tone), it is the 3 tones you hear when you reach a disconnected number. Download the tone and put it at the beginning of your voice mail message. When you are called by a computer, it hears the tones and lists your number as disconnected. It stopped the crap calls for me.
Received a call from this number, and a man answered and asked for someone else. He had a recording of the person's name who he was looking for and kept repeating it. It was quite irritating. When asked where he was calling from, he said "The Tea Party Citizen Fund." I ended up hanging up because there was a lot of long pauses.
