I received a call from this number. A woman identified herself as Nicole Cochran and said she works with the Criminal Investigation Dept. of Dorothy Thornton and Associates. She was calling on behalf of my sister and basically said if my sister didn't call by the end of the day (7-9-10) she would have a warrant out for her arrest. After making a phone call to someone else for help they said this person is probably just a collection agency and I shouldn't worry about it. Well, you do worry about it when these people are so sure-sounding and give you case numbers, etc.. I'm only posting this as another warning since a different phone number was listed when I Googled DT and Assoc.
I've just received a voicemail with exactly what others are describing here. I have no unpaid debts and I've never used a Payday loan. Where did these clowns get my number?
I also received a call from this lady calling herself Officer Cocrrahn, she has been call my job for about four days now. she informs me that i am being investigated for check fraud and a warrant is going to be issues out for my arrest. She also leaves message with my co workers telling them I am going to jail. I have taken pay day loan out in the past, but to my understanding they were all paid, and the amount she is stating i own is out of control so that in its self is a little fishy. Never the less I am a little scared of what could happen. If anyone know about this or knows the Pa laws on this it would help. Thanks
Read all the threads. Tell her to send you proof. Or hang up on her. Explain to your friends at work that it's a scam. Tell "Officer" Cochran that she can NOT call your work place. By law she has to stop then. But DO NOT give them any information. Nothing is going to happen. They can NOT send a warrant out for you. Relax. Their whole schpiel is to scare you into giving them money by blatantly lieing. They are a bottom feeder debt collecter that will stoop to any low, even illegal, to collect. Give them a hard time and they'll move on to an easier target. They've been sued several times and lost in all of them. Their BBB rateing is an F. They are a JOKE.
Actually, a Death Cert is public information, most counties (in Texas) have it to where you can at least view the information (generic) about it (maybe not the actual death cert). I work for our appraisal district and look at this stuff all the time. The Social Security death index would be another public access site that you can determine when someone was born or died.
