I received a call from this number. A woman identified herself as Nicole Cochran and said she works with the Criminal Investigation Dept. of Dorothy Thornton and Associates. She was calling on behalf of my sister and basically said if my sister didn't call by the end of the day (7-9-10) she would have a warrant out for her arrest. After making a phone call to someone else for help they said this person is probably just a collection agency and I shouldn't worry about it. Well, you do worry about it when these people are so sure-sounding and give you case numbers, etc.. I'm only posting this as another warning since a different phone number was listed when I Googled DT and Assoc.
hi, i recieved a call on 1-19-2011 from a "nicole cochron" badge #6414 saying she was an investigator and that if i didnt pay her 975.00 for money that i owed from a cash advance back in 2007 that a warrent would be issued for my arrest for passing bad checks and i would be facing 2-5 years imprisonment and be a felon.. i have never had a record for anything so i was scared out of my wits.. i preceeded to get ahold of my estranged husband and he waited for her call that she was returning in30minutes or the warrent would be issued, she also scared him into giving her his account info.. a friend of mine suggested i google the name and when i did thank Jesus i found this web site.. needless to say my husband cancelled his accounts befor she was able to empty them!! i cant believe i was almost scammed that way, i to should add that she also called my 87 year old grandma and drilled her prior to calling me and had her scared to death, i am the mother of 4 and my grandma honestly believed i was goin to go to prison for 2-5 years.. this lady is a piece of work and i hope she is found and does 2-5 years herself:)
As far as their claim as to being "Fraud Investigators" here's how they got there jobs. Check out their help wanted ad on Craig's List. Also notice where your money goes if you were to pay them. (If you can get past the horrible grammar)

30% goes to the collector? They are just a sleeze bag collector that's trying to make quick cash before they're shut down. Ask them to show you proof that they are licensed to collect in your state. That'll get rid of them.
DO NOT pay a collector. Take it up with the original creditor (if you want). If they've sold it, it was for a few cents on the dollar. You don't owe someone $500 when they spent $5. BBB rating = F
April, It seems to be a tactic of there's to call their target's elderly relatives first. Probably so they will call you scared to death, thus scaring you or possibly to see if Grandma may offer her credit card. Easier target. Regardless this is illegal. A creditor can only call a family member or neighbor ONCE and that is to request the whereabouts of the person they're looking for ONLY. Dorsey Thornton & Assoc. is breaking every rule in the book under the FDCPA. If they call again, tape the call (if legal in your state) and you could possibly win a suit against them. Others already have. But regardless DO NOT give them any financial info.
