I received a call from this number. A woman identified herself as Nicole Cochran and said she works with the Criminal Investigation Dept. of Dorothy Thornton and Associates. She was calling on behalf of my sister and basically said if my sister didn't call by the end of the day (7-9-10) she would have a warrant out for her arrest. After making a phone call to someone else for help they said this person is probably just a collection agency and I shouldn't worry about it. Well, you do worry about it when these people are so sure-sounding and give you case numbers, etc.. I'm only posting this as another warning since a different phone number was listed when I Googled DT and Assoc.
Hey just wanted everyone to know that a.I.s. Is advance america's collection agency and they pulled all their accounts from dorothy thornton and associates and the 1200 they wanted me to pay was really only 465.00 they are full of [***] and its nothing but a scam
what dorothy is doing is illegal. you can not threaten people with arrest, and you can not claim you are an attorney if you aren't. Ask for her BAR assoiation number. Also - most states require collectors to be liscenced - georgia does not, but if you live outside of GA YOUR STATE may require taht collectors be liscenced in YOUR STATE to collect. If your state reqires a liscence and she does not have one in your state she can not collect from you. http://www.collectionagency411.com/collectionagencylicense.htm
Also, you have the right to send a debt validation letter which will cease all communication untill they validate your debt. If this is junk debt or a scam - she probablly can't validate it. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
The phone number in my call list is: 404-935-9478 also -9374. Apparently they use several numbers? I have received at least 30 calls at this point and have contacted a lawyer. I have considered changing my cell phone number.
This person called a family member and reported that I was going to have criminal charges taken out on me for check fraud. My family was so worried. I wish I could do something to stop this from happening to others.
