I received a call from this number. A woman identified herself as Nicole Cochran and said she works with the Criminal Investigation Dept. of Dorothy Thornton and Associates. She was calling on behalf of my sister and basically said if my sister didn't call by the end of the day (7-9-10) she would have a warrant out for her arrest. After making a phone call to someone else for help they said this person is probably just a collection agency and I shouldn't worry about it. Well, you do worry about it when these people are so sure-sounding and give you case numbers, etc.. I'm only posting this as another warning since a different phone number was listed when I Googled DT and Assoc.
This women contacted me as well two days ago. Due to her threat that my son would be arrested on felony charges of attempt to defraud Bank of America. I too, caved into her strong and convincing tactics and paid her close to $2000. My son, who is 31 is out of the country on vacation and could not be reached. Needless to say I am furious. My son lives in Florida, I live in New York. Aside from disputing this with my credit card company, can you adivse on any other action I can take on my son's behalf? What tipped me off that this was a scam was her receipt- then lookingback on the conversation I had an Aha moment. I have not signed her receipt and she is leaving messages on my machine while I am at work. She identifies herself as an investigator with a badge number of 6414.
Cindy--
I am going to repost this information as you need to get in touch with the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs TODAY. This is a clearcut case of extortion and they may need to get Federal authorities involved as well:

It is extremely important to their case to include in your statement if the phone representative claimed to be an attorney, claimed that the firm is a law firm or alluded to the firm being a law firm or having lawyers on staff or something about a network of attorneys that work for their firm. Also end your statement with the line below:
I respectfully request that the firm Dorothy Thornton & Associates be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law pursuant to 15 USC §§ 1692 § 814 and State laws regarding Fair Debt Collection Credit Practices.
Thank you, I will follow -up immediately. I recognize that it is already 4:30 PM on a Friday- just getting home from work, but I will pursue this issue with the Georgia Governor's Office and use the language you suggested. Chances are, they won't read it until Monday. I feel so violated that I will do what ever it takes to get justice for myself and all the victims who have been involved with this heartless human.
Oh, I should also mention that she caught me three days after my son graduated from college and I told her this- she preyed upon my fear that a felony would ruin his life- He's in the medical profession and about to take his boards in January. I guess I should be surprised she didn't up the ante.
Ill keep you "posted"
