My elderly mom received a phone call from 409-574-1214 with a man with a middle eastern voice with the ploy of needing personal information in order to receive a "new medicare card". After her phone call, I notified our local police department and contacted consumer affairs at 800-481-6896. They informed me that this is a scam originating in India. They have been requesting banking information and social security numbers. The phone number they are using is an internet generated phone number that was requested in India using a Texas zip code. IF YOU RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM THIS NUMBER PLEASE CALL YOUR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT AT THEIR NON EMERGENCY NUMBER AND CALL CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT 800-481-689 TO GET THESE IDIOTS BEHIND BARS!!
I just received a call from my mom that she got a call from this number today. Her experience is nearly identical to the above testimonies. She isn't someone who normally falls for stuff like this. But she did. She stated the scammer sounded so convincing. She called her bank and will be going tomorrow to close her account. She will also file complaints with Consumer Affairs. These callers are horrible!!!!
This sounds like a fishing expedition to get your social security number and other personal info. A big red flag that says it's a possible "identity thief". Don't ever give out this information to anyone.
