I just received a similar phone call, but from a different number. Was there any additional charges on your phone bill after you pushed one? I just did before I read this column and would like to know if I need to contact my phone provider.
Got an automated call from this number (don't have caller id -- used *69 to get it). They said my car warranty was ready to expire, and to press 2 if I've already taken care of it, and 1 to "correct the problem". They were very pushy. Anyway, I dialed 1 just to see what they would say, they asked for my car make and model, year, and my phone number. Then the operator said "just a minute", I heard a few clicks, and I was hung up on.
I really hope they can't do anything to me with that kind of info. Didn't seem like that much, but why would they hang up after they got it?
Just received a call from this number. A very pushy sounding recording said, "We've been trying to reach you. Your car warranty is about to expire. Press 1 to correct the problem". I hung up. This must be a scam. My car warranty is long expired.
Got a call from this number 2 hours ago. My answering machine picked up so I only got the the last half of the number; the my caller ID box got the number. I tracked the area code down to the Pittsburgh, PA area and now went online to see what/who it was and found this page. Car insurance about to expire? Really? How nice! Since I DON'T have a car, let alone insurance. Yeah, I smell a scam.
Received a message that was unclear as to subject. Caller insisted that I punch "1" to resolve an unclear "problem". I was concerned that the message was fraudulent, so I erased the message.
received a recording at work insisting I press '1' NOW! to clear up some problem.. I erased message and googled the number and found this site with other's experiences of the same.
