My elderly mother received a call from a machine with a distorted voice message saying she must call back immediately to avoid legal action. Very upsetting to her. Used her first name. The callers voice sounded like an older woman's voice and she ended the call with "have a nice day".
First of all- the recorded number called my office (not even a direct extension, just the general office number) then the recording came on about being the IRS yadda yadda. I came across this post, and decided to call it back. It directed to someone with a foreign accent and I am pretty sure he answered it "investigative revenue service" lol so then he asks if they called my home or cell, and wanted my telephone number so that they could see what case was pending against me. I asked who it was even for, since they called a general place of business. he went through his entire "script" again. No joke...word for word. His connection was pretty bad but I decided to have a little fun with it and made him repeat his entire script a couple more times. (probably because thats about all the english he knows is based on the script) I would give the periodic "Hello?? I think i hear you better now!" "Hello??... Hello?? oh shoot.. did i lose you again??" Then he started in on the "hello maam?? Maam??" then all rude says "Are you deaf????" if anyone had a doubt that it was a scam- spend 5 minutes on the phone. Or if you need a good laugh.
