I am a tax attorney in New York (but provide nationwide Federal tax assistance) and googled this number after a client informed me that someone named David Green from the IRS called him. I was skeptical because Mr. Green did not leave a toll free number. I'm definitely shocked to see all these abuses. However, please be aware that the IRS DOES in fact call taxpayers who owe. Those calls and even home visits are usually done by Revenue Officers who are tasked with collecting unpaid taxes. I am about to call the IRS then Mr. Green to find out who he is.
I suggest you definitely ask for that person’s ID number and to speak to the individual's supervisor if the calls become abusive (threating jail, etc.). If they do not let you speak to someone you believe to be an IRS supervisor, politely get off the phone and call the IRS directly at (800) 829-1040 (M-F 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. your local time [Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time]) to try to resolve the issue. If you need additional assistance contact the IRS’ Taxpayer Advocate Service at (877) 777-4778 or a tax representative such as myself.
Be aware that once the IRS files a tax lien, companies fishing for clients may send you notices that look like IRS correspondence trying to drum up business. However, they will most likely not have your phone number because that information is not on the tax lien. Good luck!

I also received a call today from David Greene 415-413-3834 IRS REF. 128723 informing me that the IRS was going to garnish my wages and arrest my husband for unpaid taxes in the amount of $2,984. Good thing we already knew we didn't have any issues with IRS because we just finish paying them for previous back taxes. I informed him that I would have my attorney get back to him. I feel sorry for the people that they are able to scam! They need to be stopped ASAP and prosecuted to the full extent of the LAW!
The thing to do is to get as much contact information as you can, then report them to the FBI at www.fbi.gov/contact-us/. Let the feds take care of it.
I two received multiple phone calls from a man with a heavy Indian accent calling himself James martin , he claimed that I had a discrepancy with my taxes and I needed to call him or my legally obtained attorney should call him off the record before they take legal action. I am very concerned with how they obtain our information and just how much personal info do they have .
