I have been receiving phone calls for two weeks from this phone number threating me with a lawsuit saying that I owe Cash Advance USA $487.51 that the police will be coming to my place of employement to arrest me if I dont pay this amount. They even knew my SSI# and the funny thing is that I havent worked at the place they said for over 12 years. They even wanted my Attorneys name and I told the they were full of crap.
I received a call from theses people threatening me to pay them money or they will have a warrant out hity arrest. I told them I with for the government and I will see them in court she hung up in my face. I called back many times to the number, and they picked up and hung it back up. Finnally some non English speaking guy answered and was very rude and hung up in my face. Now, it's my turn!! If I can fight for my country, I don't mind fighting these losers!!
This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:
CALLED MY OFFICE TODAY ASKING FOR MY ASSISTANT SAYING THAT HIS NAME WAS DALE SMITH (WHATEVER HABIBE!) AND SAID THAT HE WAS CALLING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL AFFAIRS ON BEHALF OF AN ATTORNEYS OFFICE FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. IT WAS SO BAD YOU COULD TELL IT WAS ALL B.S.
THEN! HE STARTED TO GET HATEFUL WITH ME AND DEMANDED THAT I GIVE HER THE MESSAGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! THE REAL KICKER? HE CALLED ALL 3 OF OUR OFFICE LINES AT THE EXACT SAME TIME FROM THE EXACT SAME NUMBER WHICH MADE IT WHERE I COULDN'T RECEIVE ANY CALLS FROM ANY OTHER CUSTOMERS FOR A MINUTE. FREAKS!
SO, AFTER 12 ATTEMPTS AT CALLING THIS # BACK AND ONLY GET SOME VOICEMAIL WITH NO MESSGE, A FOREIGN WOMAN PICKED UP SAYING THAT SHE WAS SO TYPE OF DEPT OF LEGAL AFFAIRS REP. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS CALLING ON BEHALF OF AN ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND THAT I DEMANDED TO KNOW WHY MY CLIENT WAS RECEIVING CALLS AT WORK REPEATEDLY FOR NO REASON, SHE DEMANDED TO KNOW MY BAR # AND WHEN I TOLD HER NOT UNTIL AFTER SHE LISTENED TO MY QUESTION SHE HUNG UP ON ME. WHEN I TRIED CALLING BACK SHE PICKED UP AND HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN. THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST TRYING TO GET AHOLD OF PERSONAL INFO TO CONTINUE FUNDING THEIR DUMBA** SCAMS
