The area code 416 is not a US area code -- it is restricted to the City of Toronto (Greater Toronto uses 905), which is the largest city in the Province of Ontario.
Received a call on my cellular (in other words, it costs me money) from this number. There was a bunch of merry chatter on the other end but when I responded with our company greeting, the caller simply hung up.
What can i say ... i'm as prone to acting before thinking as the next person but i do like to take advantage, when i can, of the opportunity to admit when i'm wrong, even when it means i end up burning myself in the process.
After i posted the company's contact information and suggested that people start faxing them black paper, the 'good side' (my business side) took over and i found myself calling Synergy's customer service to advise them that they were being slammed in a blog. (Hey, it's only fair.)
Not 15 minutes later, the president himself phoned to express how concerned he was that someone at their company might be annoying potential customers in this fashiong. Apparently, they don't have a call centre and any calls are made by their actual sales people. (To clarify, their fax number shows up on the call display because of CRTC rules.)
Mr. Szenes seemed genuinely concerned and gave substantial assurance that he would personally investigate what seems to be an ongoing (albeit infrequent) issue.
Between the professionalism of the call, the sincerity in his commitment customer relations and an obvious concern for individuals' rights to freedom from harassment, it is apparent that this is a serious company which would not knowingly condone this type of abuse.
Now that their contact information is posted on this site, i would encourage reporting any future abuse directly to them. They seem interested in addressing the situation, and we all know that professionalism is measured not in perfection, but in how you correct your mistakes.
