Receive many phone calls from 1-417-800-2511 asking for Japanese male 18 or above to participate in a studies. My number is unlisted and registered with the 'do-not-call' list. The rep on the phone was unable to clarify how they get my number.
I said it was not a telemarketer. If it is a scam then it is still not a telemarketer... Only one post prior to my post mentioned who or what the caller possibly was. "Resarch study" Exempt. Whether it is a scammer or whatever else, that came after my post has nothing to do with my assessment at the time of the post.
I don't think so .....Dude. Why don't you go to the FTC site and do a little reading yourself. Learn something.
Until an Alleged surveyer calls for the purpose and makes an attempted to sell you goods or services, it is a survey. Until that Attempt is made, it is not a telemarketer. If a caller calls you and discusses their business with the sole intent and ultimate goal of arranging a face to face meeting between you and a representative of that company, for the purpose of establishing a business relationship, it is a legal call. The DNC does not cover
computer popups or Mcdonalds/Burger King advetisments. That has nothing to do with the DCN Registry. Nor does it give anyone immunity against any unsolicited or unwelcomed caller. The FTC reports over 90 percent of all complaints filed are invalid because of a basic misunderstanding of the purpose of the DNC and what it covers. Sounds like this would be a good starting point for you. The FTC does not accept generalizations when dealing with the sole purpose of the establishment of the DNC and it's purpose. The sole purpose of the DNC, when established and in existence today, was and is to provide a means of limiting Telephones sales of goods and services to those who wish not to receive them. The DNC list was created by the FTC, for that purpose originally and still exists for that purpose today. FTC Registered companies are required to purchase this list and its updates that they may honor those requesting not to be called. It is a pleasure correcting you type of misinformation. Me getting over something is not a solution to your lack of knowledge concerning the FTC and its DNC registry. You are right about one thing. One could spend many years trying to teach checkers to chimps and not accomplish anything. Go to the FTC site and learn something.
Cold calling is not Telemarketing. Only if and when an attempt is made to sell you goods or services does it become so. . Robo calling is illegal to all cell phones and illegal in most states for land lines. This is a violation of FCCs, not DNC. Another news flash, once you press 1, you have established a business relationship in expressing a desire to talk with a representative. Not a flaw in my logic. Once this relationship is established, he can try to sell you the moon and the stars above.
No, I am not a telemarketer. I am simply trying to encourage you as well as others to go to the FTC/DNC site and learn what you are talking about. If you will research other phone numbers and Threads on this discussion board, you will find many posts such as mine, trying to define what constitutes telemarketing as opposed to scam calls, scofflaws, unethical collectors, overseas callers, and those calles hidden through spoofing telephone numbers.
It does make a difference when reporting your complaints to the FTC/DNC. There are many members of this board such as myself who have repeatedly tried to get people to understand exactly what a Telemarketer is, as defined by the FTC and the DNC registry. Most calls Reported and complained about on this discussion board, as well as to the DNC, are not valid nor are they prosecutable. If it is not a Legitimate telemarketer, as defined by the FTC/DNC, who has violated the DNC list, it will do no good to try to report them. It will be screened out by those who are tasked with screening all of the reports. That number is up in the hundreds each day. What does it hurt for people who actually want to aggresively go after these lawbreakers, to go to the FTC site and educate themselves so that they can make an accurate and usable complaint to the FTC? Unless a complaint is valid and prosecutable, it does nothing except create more work and less effectiveness for the FTC/DNC.
Sara, I am not your Telemarketer, scammer or what ever. I am infact one of the most active members of this board in exposing scammers and unethical debt collectors. I come here on a regular basis, not to hassle, but to inform others, as do the other members. Why would I be wasting my time here, trying to encourage you and others to take the time to go to the FTC site, and read first hand, what can be a very informative and rewarding time spent.
