Receive many phone calls from 1-417-800-2511 asking for Japanese male 18 or above to participate in a studies. My number is unlisted and registered with the 'do-not-call' list. The rep on the phone was unable to clarify how they get my number.
I do not say it is a survey either! I said it is NOT a Telemarketer. Because it does not come under the definition of what the FTC describes as a telemarketer.
You hung up? What was the total content of the call? Research labs will call and survey to find those who may be willing to become a part of a drug that may cure. Telling you that you could earn $1,000 blah, etc, is standard for drug research labs in order to get people to participate. How did it end up, with some attempting to sell you goods or services?
If it didn't, it's not a telemarketing call..yet.
People, you are dead wrong. Ken is a well respect member of this board, as am I and many others.
I also post often in order to hopefully clarify what constitutes a Do Not Call Registry violation. It has become a hopeless task. Other members such as yef, Resident47, Gunnar, dcso, Jay, Sir B, and others will often post the exact same posts that ken has. .I am a retired teacher and I too read this board often and many times I, like other members, will comment on the intended purpose of the DNC. I encourage all of you to go to different threads on this board and read other similar posts. I also encourage you to go to the FTC site and read all of the Frequently asked Q&As concerning the DNC as well as all of the other available information concerning what is exempt what is not and the defining terms used in describing the purpose of the DNC.
There's no need to spend almost $100 on a device like the Digitone to block calls as there are many less expensive options. Even some free ones.
If you are interested in replacing/upgrading your phone many are now available with blocking features and the ability to block a lot of numbers.
The T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker sells for under 60 bucks on Amazon and can block up to 1500 numbers.
You can set up a Google phone account for free (with easily configurable call blocking) and get your home calls forwarded there.
If you have a home office or just have a home computer on most of the time Phone Tray Free software (Google it) may work for you. As the name implies, it's free.
No need to send the Digitone spammer any of your hard earned money.
