This guys accent was so fake I thought it was my Grandson pranking me and my responses totally threw off the caller/scammer. This number currently displays the name Robert Krechel and the "fake Indian-accented con-man" told me hew was from Window Tech Dept (or some such bullshizz) and that I had some virus in my computer that was spreading and I needed to get online immediately with him so he could help me ADD (oh,, I mean "remove" :) it. I eventually just said "this looks very fishy to me so if indeed you are from microsoft/windows then send me something in writing as you should have all my data (including relevant e-mail and standard mail addresses) already and be able to comply with my request without me giving any further information..thank you"..and I hung up..the end.. PEACE!
Received phone call at 8:54 pm last night while we were watching television. Caller ID on the the TV screen showed:
417-852-4043 Robert Krechel. I let the phone ring 4 times knowing I didn't recognize the phone number or the name shown. Picked up after 5th ring and said nothing - just held the phone to my ear. Could hear boiler room activity of other callers talking in background and heard a female voice in broken English say three times "Hello" "Hello" "Hello is there anyone there?" I knew it was a scammer from overseas so at this time I spoke (and I'm trying to watch my language in this reply) so I asked just went off making up some nasty stuff off the cuff like, "thanks for calling about my posting on craigslist in the casual encounters section- as you can see from my picture in the post I am quite endowed; over 9 inches here and she hung up. Go figure...LMAO ROTFL
2 calls today, both hung up when I answered. Spoofed caller ID info. Can't be called back, get 'number no longer in service' Robert D Krech Caller ID info
The sad fact is, the Do Not Call list does work. Legitimate businesses obey it and don't call you.
But the scammers, the one's trying to steal from us, don't obey it. They're already crooks; why should they?
As for Robert Kretchel, he may be a victim too. The scammers are most likely using VOIP to call, not a land line or cell phone. If I understand how VOIP works correctly, that means they can type whatever they want us to see into the Caller ID field.
If I'm right, they probably got tired of getting caught making up Area Codes that don't exist and just chose an entry from a phone book at random.
Johnny D and others who are referring to the Do Not Call list... Unfortunately, the list is for legitimate businesses who actually agree to comply with it. If one of them calls you and you're on the list, you can file a complaint and they can be fined. These crooks who are running these scams don't care a bit about the law and have no scruples. 99% of them are calling from India and they use special equipment to fool your caller ID into seeing and showing a U.S. area code and number. I know it's beyond annoying, but it really is just better to try to ignore them and not pick up when they call.
