that's what they said to me too, but this is like the 3rd person trying to do this it's becoming annoying. I called the number back just to see what they say when they answer and they said that they are the US Treasury.
Same idiotic morons saying I am being indicted by the grand jury for serious crimes. I must call them and they will help me.
My question is why law enforcement won't track them down and jail them for telephone harassment. I get these calls 3-4 times a day and block the number only to be called by another number.
Thus number called me twice very early this morning and left voice mails. The caller prrwsented himself as Steve Martin in a heavy middle eastern accent, which made me laugh. The messages simply called me "you" and claimed that if I ignored the second call I would be indicted by the grand magistrate. When my phone rang a third time I couldn't resist answering. He asked for my name and I told him he should know it since he was calling me. I also told him I loved him in the movie "The Jerk". I asked him if he even knew what the US Treasury department does, which he informed me is apparently collecting tax debts at 6 in the morning over the phone using a prepaid debit card.
Finally, I informed him that he had been reported to the FTC, and that his scam was lacking in believability. On one hand, it makes me chuckle just because it is such an poorly executed scam, but at the same time it makes me furious because I know people probably have and will fall for this crook.
Got a call from this "Steve Martin" today too as well. Left message. Horrible accent and of course, warning me I would be arrested and hauled before a magistrate, etc. I knew it was a scam but called him back. When I told him I knew it was a scam and to leave me alone, he threatened ME for harassing him and not to call him any more! Can you believe it? What a piece of garbage.....
