These people are insidious. They pick on women, and single mothers. They also try to hit up the wives which is kind of strange since most husbands and wives file jointly. They also pick on the elderly and members of the immigrant community.
Remember that the IRS initiates contact by mail only! IRS has no authority over local police at all and no law enforcement functions. Local police are never involved in IRS tax disputes. Tax disputs are civil matters and 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. Law enforcement is almost never used and then if needed US marshals perform that function.
The callers are located in either Pakistan or India and as such outside the reach of US law. Call blocker is your best bet and do not pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.
This # keeps calling me and telling me they are the United States IRS and my taxes for 2012 have not been filed correctly and I need to wire them $2500 so that I will not be arrested. They also state that they will have a Police Officer at my door if I try to leave my residence I will be immediately arrested for a long period of time. Of course I went outside while on the phone with him and asked where the Officer is so I could direct this Officer to me. Still waiting for the Police to show up...lol
