When I answered there was the standard robocall delay, then an automated voice began its pitch.
"California Veterans Assistance Foundation" - the local branch of 'Veterans Assistance Foundation' which is number 26 on the smartasset.com list of "50 Worst Charities".
When I asked what company was calling the robot replied with "Outreach Calling" which is also one of the worst 50 fundraisers - with a long history of soliciting for fake charities and keeping most of the contributions.
Do not give to these scum. Don't even be polite to their robot solicitor. Just ask to be removed from their calling list. Then write the date and call information down and file a FCC and/or FTC complaint against them if/when they call back. If you have enough documentation you can collect $500 per call after you request removal.
The area code is Los Angeles, but Outreach is located in Reno, NV and CVAF is listed as being in Sacramento.
The phone number is spoofed.
I have to leave the "call type" below as 'unknown' because 'Paid Solicitor' is not an option (but should be, or perhaps 'charity fraud'). They are not a 'non-profit' as Outreach Calling is very much a for profit operation, but they are not selling anything (except BS) so they are not telemarketing.
