Just block them. It is a scam robocall that is programmed for voice recognition. I wanted to see if it would put a live person on by giving confusing answers to the machine. Instead it jumped past its programmed listings of points and right to asking me how much I wanted to donate. Still have no idea who they are. The machine just hung up instead of getting a live person.
They (it) called about 9a.a. this morning. I'm more and more convinced it's agents of the ΠSΔ or some other civil servant financed by our tax dollars harvesting voice prints of the untold million citizens on watch lists.
10 Ridiculous Things That Make You a Terrorist Suspect.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
I answer to hear the pitch. Nothing from the other end. I ask "Do I really want to talk to you? No? You've got nothing?" Then a voice pops on "Hi, I',m Michael Clark from .... <missed the name> in Los Angeles. [it was a robot] Did you know that .... <something about kids and police and programs in Los Angeles>". I said "Take me off your call list!". Michael the robot shut up. "Did you hear that?". Nothing. I think he hung up. I'll post back here if I get another call from them.
For the record, I never, never, ever give money to anyone who contacts me about it -- especially by a phone call. Too easy for scammers to pose as legitimate charities. I do try to get off of their call lists which, when it works, supports them being legit. If it doesn't get me off the call list, my complaints go straight to the Federal Trade Commission, the Do Not Call List, and the state attorney general.
CID to my phone on 03.17.16 @ 1943 hrs PT, from "Los Angeles,CA." Web search found that caller often identified as solicitor for "California Assoc. of Police Officers. "
BEWARE! Most so-called police-fire solicitors are NOT emergency workers, they are PAID contractors. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0085-fu ... nd-firefighters. Though these contractors MAY have a contract with local police &/or fire to solicit in their name, the share that police/fire might receive is often less than-----ready for this----3%! So, if you'd like to donate to police/fire, please do so DIRECTLY to the organization.
