JUST got a call from 484.489.0922 . . . again . . . answered, because I was busy working, and there was no on on the other end. . . just an 'air noise'. Just capturing that someone answered, I'm sure. I left the number on my phone this time, because they have called several times before - but this time, I put it as a 'Contact' with the name "DO NOT ANSWER". WTH can we do to stop these companies??? Our numbers have been put on the 'Do Not Call' list, but it's as though they ignore them, or just don't care.
We can't we join together to get some sort of Legislation passed to prohibit this, and if they continue to harass, the company pays a HEFTY fine. . . and the company CAN be found. SOME company assigned the number. . . We are ALL sick of it.
You can file a complaint through the FCC web site: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm. According to a correspondence I got from the FCC, you can actually collect up to $1500 from the offending company. So often these "companies" spoof their caller ID to you, so can not get an accurate number to file a complaint. However, if you get a live person, you can ask for a call back number.
My cordless phone has a bad battery and they can hear the beep on the other end, so I can be truthful in asking for a number in case we get cut off. It's been my best friend in busting these companies! My phone has also been much quieter since I started filing complaints.
On the Robo-dialers (which is a violation of the Federal No Call Act) the best response is no response, once you hit that button, they know the number works The really really crooked ones will put some type of charge to your phone bill without your knowledge, just for hitting that button.
