If I have time I have fun. I develop software and frequently have time on my hands while the system is running a compile. If "John" happens to call, fairly frequently, I listen and press 1. Then I leave the talker on the speaker until they finish. Then I spin a yarn. Tonight after we discussed the system and its features, I told him I thought it was a great idea. He took down my address, etc. all made up.
Then I told him I lived in a nursing home, had for years. He'd have to call the director of the home to get payment authorization. He asked me for a credit card, then a checking account number, I told him I didn't need any of those as the home took care of all my bills.
I must have kept the poor [***] on the phone for close to 30 minutes, thinking he made a sale. The I thanked him, told him to make arrangements for payment with the director, and said "Gotta go now, bye!"
If everybody, or even a few, did this every chance they get, these guys would probably give up. Anyway, at least you get a laugh. The more of their time we can waste the better it is for everyone.
Called and left a message that he was John from the shipping department and they were ready to ship my Emergency Medical Alert.. "help I've fallen and I can't get up". Said that I get it free and that shipping was free because someone in my family had fallen?
John, on a recorded message, makes 2-3 phone calls to my number a week. This has gone on for months. I am reporting it the the attorney general's office. It is maddening.
It is for a 'free' emergency medical alert that has already been paid for. Yeah.....I believe that! NOT.
I GET 3 OR 4 CALLS PER WK. FROM THIS LOUISVILLE KY # ..TRY TO CALL SAME # & DOES NOT EVEN RING..I'M TIRED OF RECEIVING THESE UNWANTED CALLS FROM THIS # & A # FROM A WIRELESS # IN LEXINGTON, SAME THING ONLY THIS ONE IS 2-4 TIMES PER DAY, ALL HOURS, SAME RESULT, TRY TO RETURN CALL TO RESOLVE THE CALLS & SAYS NO LONGER IN SERVICE. I got a call from this number this evening. John wanting to arrange for delivery of my Medical Alert Alarm system. I said he was mistaken, must have the wrong number. He insisted that I had paid for the system, I said he was mistaken. He said either someone in my family or my friends had paid for one for me. I said he was mistaken. He INSISTED that someone had paid for it, that I should take it. I said he WAS MISTAKEN. The said shipping had also been paid for. I said HE WAS MISTAKEN!!! He said, "Well, someone paid for it for you, don't you want it. Thousands of hospitals recommend having one." I said I didn't pay for one, no one I knew had paid for it, I didn't need it, and I didn't care how many hospitals recommended it, I DID NOT WANT IT. He would just start with the same thing, over talking me, insisting someone had paid for it, and he needed to make arrangements for delivering. I finally told him he was a damn con man and not to bother me again. I have NEVER has someone try to ram something down my throat as insistently as this "John" When he started insisting it was paid for I should take it, I told him to tell me my name and tell me how paid for it. He suddenly went silent. I hung up.
