As many other posters have said, this is a SCAM to get you to either give them personal information or allow them to take remote control of your computer. I recommend you do one or both of the following:
1) Play along with them as much as you can, but don't change anything on your computer unless you know what you are doing. They may ask you to do some things and then tell you if your computer screen says something that they say it does. This is supposed to "Prove" there is a problem with your computer. Then they may actually ask you to type something in or go to a web address where you can download something into your PC. DON'T do anything you are not sure of!!! It would be good if you can keep them going and waste their time. If they swear at you, smile because you are doing a great job. Beg them for another chance to do what they want and waste more time if you are up for it.
2) If you are on the DNC list, report the calls to the FTC do not call list violation number at 1-888-382-1222.
This number may be spoofed or faked, but the FTC should be able to investigate if they get enough complaints and looking from the list of posts here, that should be easy to get. But only if you file a complaint.
Lastly, this scammer seems to be using an automated dialing system. That's why when you answer and say "hello" they don't say anything for a few seconds. Often these systems work by calling you, AND calling the phone bank of scammers. What happens many times and is working for me right now, is that even though they hand up on you, your phone will still be connected to them until YOU hang up. So if you stay on the line you will tie up theirs so they can't use that line to call others. You may hear the beeping that says the call has ended, but I have found that is often a FAKE. They just play a recording of that sound so you will hang up. After a short while it will stop. If you hear a louder, faster beeping, that doesn't stop quickly that IS your phone provider telling you to hang up and this idea did not work.
