Around December time frame we received a call from someone who claimed to be Plaza Associates. They wanted my husbands SSN. He refused to give it to them. They would not tell him anything unless he verified our address. Since we are listed he gave them that. They then told us we owed $154 to Palisades Collection, LLC from AT&T Wireless. With a balance of $281.07. The strange thing is that we have an active account with AT&T wireless and they show us not owing them anything. "Plaza Associates" later sent us a bill. Further researched revealed they are a scam. My husband wrote a letter to Plaza Associates 370 Seventh Ave, New York NY 10001-3900 stating the issue at hand, and if they can not provide proof it is then considered harassment and he will sue them. Now two months later this number shows up and is listed as CBE Group INC, and is connected to Pinnacle Credit Services (collection agency), which also is connected to Plaza Associates. These three are on a list with many others of phony debt collectors. Most of the people having this problem seem to have Dish Network. Medical bills, cell phone bills, and Dish Network all seem to be the most common connection between everyone having to deal with this harassment. I would suggest calling the people that they claim you owe money too, and verify it with them. We did and this is how we found out it was a hoax. Scam artist just trying to nag you out of money. Keep a good check on your credit report as well, for I have read at least Plaza Associates have made marks on people's credit reports. So sad how this world has become.
Sorry, I put the wrong collection agency name when listing the connections between the three agencies. It is not Pinnacle but Paragon. Plaza Associates, Paragon Collections, and CBE are all connected.
Today became the 5th day I received a phone call, with no message left. I don't plan to call them back, ( cuz I think its creepy when they know your name and info before you give it to them!)........ but I do hope to find an address for this place, so I can send them a note to take my name off the list, and they DO NOT have my permission to contact me via, cell, work, airwave, smoke signal or anything but snail mail. LOL!
I also want to say thanks to everyone that posted their experiences here, it sure helps at times like this!
I get anywhere from 5-10 calls a day from this place. Sometimes they leave a message where they are saying it's "Dave" I have come to the conclusion that it's a collection agency for Heilig Meyers. A furniture company that went bankrupt and sold all of their bad debt. They can keep calling if they want, I was told that all they can do it call and try to collect the money, they are not the orignal debtor and can not do anything but call. My thing is, is that this debt is over 12 yrs old...HELLO??? Ain't payin it. I wonder if I tell them they have the wrong number if they will quit calling?
