Call from the supposed IRS, but luckily I wasn't home to answer the call. They left a message with the number, 1-516-447-7167 , however when I called back, it would not go through and was a different voice of a pretend operator that said a different code each time, (i.e. 149T,152T,etc,etc)..
Is the IRS suddenly in the practice of randomly calling taxpayers? They do business by mail, UNLESS you have had prior contact with them, with you initiating the conversation. Disregard messages from these crooks and certainly do NOT return calls to them, either. Often times, they'll throw a number in because they might think it makes the message sound more believable. It's not uncommon for numbers left to be duds, perhaps scaring you enough so you won't miss another call.
