I've had 16 calls today from this number I've called back and it says its a telemarketing company push 1 to have your number removed and 2 to speak to some one I've removed my number 4-5 times now
I kept getting calls from this number and finally was able to answer, and the person said that I had won a $100 Walmart gift card. As I often fill out the surveys from stores, I thought it was about that, but they wanted my address and name, which I usually include on the surveys. I immediately told the man that I did not want to give any personal information over the phone, and he insisted that he wouldn't need anything to send me this gift card. The call started out with an opportunity to give me a confirmation number, which got set aside due to my questions about the whole deal.
I thought it was weird, and it just got weirder from there when the man wanted to "verify" by getting the type of card I had used in the store. He then tried to convince me that I shop at Walmart all the time and that they wanted to reward my loyalty. He then said they charged a one-time charge of $3.90 for shipping the gift card, and gave me some story about how they got my phone number from my transactions at Walmart - they supposedly drew my card number (he made it sound like a lottery sort of deal). At this point, I was done with them but played along out of curiosity, so I said I didn't have the card available so the man started guessing, first asking if it was Visa or Mastercard (obviously, the two most common types of card). When I said I wasn't sure because I didn't have the card available, he went on and on about my "Visa card" and how he needed the expiration date to supposedly verify.
I refused to give out any of that information and asked for this supposed confirmation, and got a story about how he needed to verify and then he would pass the information on to a senior manager, who would call me back with that information.
Not only do I rarely shop at Walmart, but I don't have a Visa card, so I knew this was messed up - if it was genuinely even remotely true, every receipt records the card number and last four digits of the card. Obviously, this is a scam. The guy was very disappointed that I was unwilling to give out that information and asked when he could call back, because I told him I was at work. I went along with that and he said he's calling back later, that way I could hop online and check this out. I did try to call the number back and got a message that said I was contacted for telemarketing purposes. There were options to either remove my number from their lists or speak to a representative, so I opted to remove my number and entered it. The message said they would remove my number from their lists within 72 hours, so we will see what happens with that.
Anyone who wants my card information isn't trustworthy in my book. If they call me back, I will be informing them not to call again.
got a call about $100 walmart gift card. asked me to verify my address. The address is wrong and he asked me to correct it. I did not and said would call back. I think it's spam. would never pick up from this number again.
