It's a fraud. The IRS does not call you. Instead, they send a letter first, and make an appointment. In addition, they will also inform you of the reason for their contact. With reference to a Tax Report Period filed. If the IRS makes
changes to your figures, they are obligated to inform you, under law! You then have (30) days from date of notice, to acknowledged your wish to appeal, or object to their changes. You must however, state your reasons
then and attach any evidence to your allegation or counter claim? In either case, ensure you attach a copy to your "written correspondence" to the IRS, and send it via Certified Return Receipt! Ensure also you make complete
copies for your personal records! You'll find out the reasons later. In either case, the people at (516)453-6962 are phonies and just plain Marketeers.
Happily free of spam callers for months... until the last few days when this and another number started a relentless pursuit, several calls a day each. I never answer, but that doesn't stop them from autodialing away at me (and you). Added the number to my no ring junk spam address book entry.
As to the questions why doesn't they government do something about it, easy... they can't. There are too many spam marketers happily violating our rights by making so many millions of calls that the "system" simply cannot handle it. In short, its very easy to pass a law to state some undesirable activity is now illegal, but it would be too costly to actually enforce it - the government is not really good at anything but spending money. Can you imagine how large a bureaucracy it would take to actually prosecute these scumbags?! In order to may your report really effective you have to give away too much of your own information in order to collect what little you can to pin these guys down, for zero recompense and for a zero percent chance that some agency will even act on the most valid and morbid of scams... these scammers are very mobile and easily stay ahead of any investigative process.
The latest message is a Tax Debt Scam -- enticing the caller with the false promise of lowering or eliminating tax debts.
Ironically, I do NOT have any tax debts; in fact, I actually very experienced in specializing in taxpayer representation. I can assure you that the process of tax debt resolution is much more complicated, and NO ONE can assure you of either penalty or debt forgiveness based on information over the phone.
In fact, these are the marketing lead generators who want to turn around and sell me the leads from these phone calls for $50 to $150/each...
Received a call said "Hi, this is Farrah. im calling about your IRS back taxes....." so i press "0" to get a person to tell them I have no back taxes dont call me again and it just looped me around to the same recording
