i have received calls from this number 2 times in the past few days. Did not answer as number is not familiar to me. Thanks to all of you who have posted your results.
Just had this scumbag call me and pretend that my computer is generating errors on "The Windows Server". I explained I have a Mac and I knew he wasn't legit. He assured me he was legit, and when I told him maybe his company is legitimate in India but not here in the USA, he became angry and told me he's in "NY" and he's not Indian, that he's "Asian". I told him he should be ashamed of himself for trying to scam people and hung up. Number blocked.
They now hang up on me as soon as I answer. In the last few weeks I have had 3 computers come in for repair that these criminals have just 'fixed'.
Much more serious than a 'prank', but no option for 'crime' or even 'scam'.
I just got the same phone call with the same number, but on my caller ID it says out of area. Same scam, the guy said I have viruses on my computer and to go check. I told him thanks for the warning, have a nice day and he refused to get off the phone, so I hung up on him. He said to me also that he was from windows technical support. I knew it was a scam because they tried it before. My father believed it, but didn't know anything about computers thankfully, so he didn't give any information away.
This number from NEW YORK 1-(518) 986-6288 keeps calling my cell number. I told them that my house burned down and that my computer was lost in the fire. Just after that they call me again I told them that I was going to report them to the FBI if they called my number again. I have not heard from them since. Total scam and a disgrace to their Indian race. They called my husband he stayed on the phone with them for half an hour and played their game he did not touch his computer once but gave them any number he came up with on the top of his head and then he told them he worked for Microsoft as well.
