Guy with British accent (I think it was British) called twice, identified himself as "Steve Martin," and left messages both times saying that I had committed some unspecified offenses and that I would have to appear before a "magistrate judge" or a grand jury. Otherwise there would be some kind of "enforcement action" by the U.S. Treasury. Concluded with something like "help us to help you."
I agree. These guys are a dime a dozen unfortunately these days. And I would like to think most folks won't fall for this scam. Just so maddening! Idiots out there trying to steal from anyone they can!
Two calls in last 2 hours. Called back to see what they say & foreign accented woman answered as "Caroline Miller" from treasury dept. I told her she was being reported to the authorities for fraud & she hung up quickly.
Claims there is a need to appear before a magistrate regarding a grand jury for a criminal offense. Claims that he is with the US treasury department. Says it is his 2nd attempt. Does not name a person or his name or what the offense is. It is a recorded message which I saved on my voicemail. He also gives a phone number to contact him and it is the same as on caller id.
