Received multiple calls from this number. Decided to answer it today and it is a company called RPM Collections. The number shows up as a Virginia number but the lady says they are in Washington. Apparently I have/had a old Nextel account that is in collections from 2005 for $73. I told them I was on deployment at that time and swore I resolved it in Feb.2006 and to have Sprint/Nextel call me.
my number is one digit off from 571-261-0021(i am not going to list which number) and MY number shows up on peoples caller ID - i get angry calls all day from people saying i call and hang up on them. THESE RPM PEOPLE SUCK!!! And AT&T says i have to change my number.
One of the angry callers was nice enough to give me the number so at least i know werhe its coming from --- but i still dont think i have any options other than changing my number.
I HATE RPM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AND AT&T FOR DOING NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!
Calls from this number, with no Caller Identity started today; 10SEP08 @Central Time: 4:48pm, 5:11pm, 5:59pm 6:11pm, 7:07pm, 7:29pm, and 8:10pm... That is about 7 calls in 3.5 hours... They would only let the phone ring for about 2 rings, sometimes 3, AFTER the first call since my answering machine is set to pick up after 5 rings. There are rules regarding calls for bill collectors also, but with no message, I have no way of knowing what it is they are pursuing... BUT the number or rings in the short period of time seems to be harrassment, most other recipients of calls seem to be being accused of a past cell phone bill, whether legit or not... I have had had ONE cell phone account ATT, SWB/Cingular, and now ATT again... still active paid and current... I do have an outstanding DirectTV Bill for .01, seems their online amount differed from their paper bill, and after late fees, etc... I have no idea how much it is now after 5 years... IF other posters figures are correct, it seems like a pretty low class operation trying to collect very small amounts, (under $100?)... SO I guess we can expect low class actions on their befalf...IMO
