We got a call from this number today at 1:41 pm, and it was blocked by our call blocker. The caller ID was RICHMOND MI. We live in Massachusetts and don't know anyone in Michigan. Due to numerous such calls, our call blocker blocks all calls from area code 586. I highly recommend such a device to avoid these nuisances.
I don't and never have had Cable, not Cable TV nor FIOS or any of the other providers. Yes, in Boston, I"m stuck with DSL, got rid satellite Dish type TV years ago. These callers could have garnered our info. from any resource available to them: our numbers are privy to banks - utilities , any company w/whom we do and have ever done business. if we use *any* service -banking, medical, utility, insurance, credit cards, Lines of Credit, you name it, if we borrow or pay, we have provided our phone numbers. These companies, in turn, share our info. with "Our business partners and associates" for "marketing purposes". Read the inserts which accompany your monthly bills and other statements such as Annual Privacy Statements. On the inserts will be a Chart which details exactly what info. they share and w/whom. Also included is a tiny section notating that which customers may "limit" , opt out of , and phone numbers to call. Your ability to "Limit" is limited to very few choices. We are always , since the turn of the 19th Century, at the mercy of big business, banks and insurance companies. Remember 2006-2008 ? We will be paying for the thievery of Wall Street Bankers and Brokers and Insurers & Others for the rest of our lives. The irony is that the only ones "doing time" are the citizens who were robbed. A very few white collars perps are behind bars. So, if you want to limit what they share about you, *read* the inserts and Privacy Statements you receive in mail and e-mail and follow the instructions. I don't know how effective it is, but it's better than sitting back and doing nothing.
