This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:
Just received a call from them today as well. This time he used the name Marshall Mathers. Told him I knew this was a scam and not to call me at my work number again.
I just got a call from this number saying that they were coming to my house to arrest me. The guy said his name was James Collard. He said I have a 500 dollar loan that I never filled out for and he wanted me to make a payment before the police came to arrest me tomorrow morning. I got upset and started yelling at him. He then said if I dont have a loan then why am I yelling at him, and that I should just pay it.
This guy is an a - hole. Just call him back and pretend to order pizza .. It makes me feel better as I already try to block the many numbers he calls from.
Guess everyone needs a job these days. One of my employees was in one of the countries where these IDIOTS do their work and was told by his host that they buy voice over internet time and make calls or use a cell phone through a computer. Smart trick but people are catching on. Anyway, who ever said collections agencies use restraining orders???? Bunch of dumb idiots. Play them if you are feeling down and need a laugh.
