Discover fraud prevention calling (about 60 seconds after I made a rather large payment to a place I never had before). They knew who I was and didn't even ask for verification information, just asked to speak with me by name. Then asked if I had just made a charge to XYZ company for $ amount. I said yep and they were on there way and happy. It was legit.
I don't own a discover card but I do do a lot of Columbus which is where this number is registered. I've looked into it and ignore those saying this is a legit number, they are lying; through their teeth.
Yes, it is, indeed, Discover! These assh*les have been calling my cell and not leaving any messages. They also called my place of employment 4 times in one day. It is embarrassing that your employer tells you that a bank called. I only missed one payment and they have been calling constantly. They have a case against my wife when I stopped paying her card almost a year ago. Complete assh*les!
An easy way to distinguish a legitimate caller from a fake/fraud is a legitimate caller will never ask for any personal information. They will already know your name and simply ask you to verify transactions they will read to you.
Fraudsters now a days are able to spoof caller id numbers, making it seem like they are calling you from a legitimate establishment. It's quite possible the call you received was a scam. On the other hand, I have verified recent account activity several times with Discover.
P.S. Most fraud prevention departments never leave voicemails. They send SMS notifications (if you signed up for it) or attempt to reach you on the phone.
