Discover fraud prevention calling (about 60 seconds after I made a rather large payment to a place I never had before). They knew who I was and didn't even ask for verification information, just asked to speak with me by name. Then asked if I had just made a charge to XYZ company for $ amount. I said yep and they were on there way and happy. It was legit.
No way this is legit, I bet some of the reassuring messages here are from the fraud callers themselves. I don't even own a discover card, but they have been calling me repeatedly, at least 4 times a day. I've never answered, because I don't answer unknown numbers, but they never leave a message, which if they had a real fraud concern, they would.
A relative fell victim to a similar scam in which a fake fraud department did this same technique. Don't give them any info, if you think it might be real, hang up and then call the official number for your credit card company!
A guy named "Tony" called from discover network asking me to run a test card because they are changing their number sequence and want to make sure it works. If this was the case they would have their OWN machines to test it on or call the credit card machine company and have THEM do it. and why call some random business? Also we have a few stores and they have called several. If it works on one machine why would it not on the others? I say because its a SCAM!!!!
Yep its Discover card. I let them leave a voicemail but called the number on the back of my card. They called because of a "large" purchase? $478. They wanted to make sure it was me. It was me that made it.
It is the Discover Fraud Department. I did not call this number back, but used the 866-598-7835 the left in my voicemail. They were verifying a large purchase that I had shipped to an address other than my home address.
Getting several calls from 6142831000, 2532468586 etc. on cell phone. read some posts and then called Discover, who verified it was them in security checking activity.
I told them to stop calling my cell phone and email me instead. They agreed and I hope to expect no more calls.
Again, don't call the number back but call Discover directly and make your request. Apparently, they do this frequently and it is annoying.
