Got the same call with a female with an accent. Very insistent. I told what country do you think you are calling she said the US . Sorry I told her this is the UK. She hung up fast. Play their bluff.
I just got one of these calls from "GTE Internet" (according to caller ID). Woman with a thick accent, speaking very slowly. Her accent reminded me of someone I know of Central American heritage. Asked for me by name, which took me by surprise. Said she was calling from GE, that they are the manufacturers of my alarm system, which I've had for more than a year. I asked how she got my phone number, she repeated that they manufactured my alarm system. I again asked how she got my number. She asked "Do you not have an alarm?" I asked how she got my number, again. This went back and forth several times. Eventually I made the mistake of saying, "No, I don't, which is why I want to know how you got my phone number." She hung up. I tried to call back, but got a busy signal.
