I received a call from a female stating she was calling from Coopertown courts (in another county from mine) and referred to me by my maiden name which has not been used in 15 years and never in this state. Even if I did ever owe an old fine, the statute of limitations would have by far passed at this point. This is absolutely an old scam. They are bottom feeders that search through old court records. Why would anybody be stupid enough to pay these scum? They are misrepresenting themselves as the court (which is illegal according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act). If you think you may owe something, call the actual courts and pay. Don't ever pay an actual debt collector. It doesn't improve your credit and in many cases, it re-opens the case. You don't owe these people anything.
My future-mother-in-law received a letter stating that there is an outstanding fine of $360.10 from 20 years ago. The person in question had been deceased for 17 years! The letter states it is from Capital Recovery Systems Inc, 750 Crosspoint Rd Suite S, Columbus, OH 43230-6693. Phone number (614) 575-0590 or (800) 693-6835. They gave an Acct # and said it was for default on fines for Goshen City Court. Mail payment to PO Box 1993, South Gate, MI 48195.
I received a call from these people as well. I am a skeptical person by nature. I did relatively extensive research on this company, Capital Recovery Systems, Inc. They are completely legitimate and work for hundreds of courts and governments agencies throughout the Midwest and Florida. I did indeed owe for a traffic case that was 4 years old. Personally, I’m glad they contacted me and I was able to get it taken care of.
