Got a call last nite. Said he was from GE securuty systems Said he could give me " free security system" if i let him put advertising on my property Then asked if I owned my own home (I stupidly said "yes"). The next question was to say my full name clearly so his rep will know who to ask for when they call back. NEVER say "yes" or your "name" over the phone to someone you didn't call. They can record it and use it for further scams I hung up after the name question I am on a do not call list and am mad at myself for letting the call go as far as it did.
FYI: "Dan" (or sometimes "Tom") is a just bunch of prerecorded messages. He may sound conversational but he's canned responses someone is pushing in the background
.
Asking them to take you off the list does no good.
All you can really do is file a complaint. donotcall.gov.
In the meantime I just resort to nonsensical answers to Dan's questions. Sometimes it's a nice break in the day to see what he comes back with.
I have heard that many solicitors will use a computer to generate calls and, if someone answers, it records the time so that an actual solicitor will have a better chance at finding someone home when they are ready to talk to you. I have also heard that you can punch the # button on your phone several times to mess up the computer call. I don't know how true that is, but it is worth a try. Personally, I just don't answer an unknown number or a number that is not given.
