I was just called today from these same people. I got a call first on my cell from a "Private Number", when answered, this lady told me that a collection agency had been trying to reach me and this was the final attempt. She gave me the number to PNC Capital Group with an account number. When I called the lady was talking very fast and said I had taken out a loan back in 2008 first, then she said it was taken out back in 1997 and payments had been made until January of 2010. Every time I tried to ask her a question she would cut me off and after trying again with a raised voice she said she would not be yelled at and hung up on me. I called back numerous times and kept getting very little bits of information from her. She said she was going to have papers served on me at my job as well. I NEVER took out a loan in 1997 or in 2008, as a matter of fact I couldn't have taken out a loan for a piece of gum in either year because of student loans. (Which are current by the way, and nothing is showing in the negative on my credit report). I think this is all a scam because she said to me that unless I was willing to set payment arrangements up, there was nothing else she would discuss with me.
I got a call from Samantha Stevens today the used a scare tactic on me on a 10 year old debt and it worked I paid her 500$, I was in a vunuable moment she used legal jargon and treated suit for 9k+ on a small debt that I owed Bank of America. She knew all my info and all credit cards I owned and said I know you have the credit line to pay this debt off ..she advised if I didn't pay the full 2600 by morning they would execute the suit against me. I told her I am willing to pay and cooperate but I need it in writing that's when she lost it and got real aggressive and threading said she would/could not put it I writing that the complete debt is settled unless I paid the full 2600, then she could email a zeroed out letter , I again I told her I was cooperative and willing to pay just want it in writing she went off on me again on me and said they start the process of suit on Monday and hung up on me.. I wanted to pay but red flags came up refused to put it in writing after I made a 500$ pa
Please someone help me reason this out do I pay this ?

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
