Caller told me that she was calling from the Treasury Dept. to tell me I was eligible for a federal grant for paying bills & taxes & never declaring bankruptcy. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works, so I asked why she was calling instead of sending a letter, as the Treasury Dept. is supposed to do. She said she needed to verify my name and address first, so I asked her to tell me the name and address she had on file and I'd let her know if it was accurate. She said she didn't know that information, only her supervisor had that (huh?), and while she was in the middle of telling me her supervisor's phone number (917 area code), the call--surprisingly--got cut off.
