Just got a call from the number (703)009-0001 at about 10:45am. I didn't answer and they left no voicemail. I am also a 919 number. I also got a call last week from the number (514)001-1000, I didn't answer and they left no voicemail. I read online that one is also a scam (obviously because that number looks super weird). I read some people said don't even answer because they may be able to get info through your phone? Not sure if that's true, but I just ignore any weird numbers every time especially after reading how rude and nasty these people are!!
Called me on my cell ( NC ) on 1-30-15. Man with thick India accent, talking very fast, wanted my Amex card # in order to lower my credit card rates. I told him Amex has never called me asking to verify my card # and he said he was not with Amex but was with Card Member Services, the same company that services all my credit card statements. He almost tricked me into thinking he was with a legitimate service because he had the first 2 numbers of my Amex card. He elaborated for a long time about how no one could charge anything to my card because the bank or card company protects me against fraudulent charges. That rant tipped me off big time. Refused to give my card #, but he knew my card began with certain 2 digits, and he repeatedly tried to get me to give him the card # and the expiration date. Told him repeatedly I was not comfortable giving him this information and I hung up. He called me back again immediately, from a different number : 210-526-6628. I told him I had just googled his phone # and he replied he was going to have my Amex card cancelled and this was the last opportunity I had to lower my rate and prevent my card from being cancelled. I hung up again, then within 1 minute, he called back again, this time from an unknown #.
Just received a call from this number- sent it to voicemail. Checked the voicemail, told me to press 9 to lower my interest rate. I promptly blocked the number in my iPhone. I'm on the Do Not Call List too, but as we're all beginning to see, it doesn't really seem to matter. I wish random phone numbers weren't so random. I think a lot of us would love to call these people back, or better yet, show up at their door!
