John, we are also on the do not call list, I told them that and during that phone call he had the nerve to say "Listen Lady" I said no you listen, Its my phone, my computer and my business stop calling I know you are not with microsoft and this is a scam. He started to argue with me more but I hung up. I too have gotten calls at all hours usually they number is "out of area" or "Private" this is the first time in several months of getting these calls that I have a number. If you figure out how to get rid of them let me know. By the way, not only are we on the do not call list we also pay to have an unlisted phone number. Good Luck
Received ANOTHER phone call where caller ID shows private name/number with someone saying they are from Microsoft and that it is urgernt. My computer is being hacked. I listened this time to see what they are talking about and asked for a return number so that I could verify they were from Microsoft. "Steve" gave me 704-325-9110 to call. He even said it's toll free.
I DID NOT call back.
Just got this call, exactly the same scenario that other people are reporting about. I was suspicious and told him so, but he assured me he was from Windows. My suspicion kept me from going any further at the point of him wanting me to download the AMMYY software. I held him on the line, called my IT specialist friend on another line, and Googled the telephone number, which is listed as a scam. I got back on the phone with the caller, told him I believe this is a scam and am now calling the police. He hung up. I called the number he gave me and it just rang and rang. SCAM!
My experience is exactly the same as everyone above. A cold call from North Carolina, a man with a foreign (Indian) accent trying to say he was from Windows and I had malicious software on my computer that he wanted access to remove. I asked for a supervisor who he put on the line, who gave me the same phone number above and the website www.techapplet.com. I was suspicious so I told him I would call back tomorrow after researching the website. Then the first guy named Kevin had the gall to call me back! I told him this is a scam and I would report him, and he argued with me even more. I even told him to add me to the Colorado no-call list and he kept arguing! I plan to send this info to Microsoft and to the Colorado attorney general. Stay tuned.
I got a call today from 704-325-9110, a person named Michael. He stated that my computer has been sending messages to Microsoft of 'issues' and possible infections in my computer. He want access to 'fix the problem'. I ask him for his number and name, and he said make sure I ask for Michael. In the background I can hear quite a bit of noise sounding like a 'telephone boiler room'. He also said his company is licensed with Microsoft to make these repairs. Sounds fishy to me. Microsoft should be made aware of this and post a response to Microsoft customers if this is valid or not. When Windows is first installed on ones computer, the question is proposed, click this button if you want your computer to send error reports back to Microsoft. So, I don't know if this is for real or not. Perhaps Microsoft should be contacted.
they keep calling me at all times of the day. I do tech support and know that my pc is 100% protected. Just wondering what operating system others are running. I have Windows 8, and am not happy with the sign up process to register the computer.
