They will say "returned item", but they will usually say "check fraud" and that's why they're calling. They may say you're going to jail or some stupid crap like that, but if it's a debt, it's civil, and you don't go to jail for civil disputes. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE SCARE YOU!
It's a so called collection agency, which is really a scam, collecting on payday loans. They won't send you proof of the debt and they'll violate every one of your rights as they possibly can. The go by County Check Services, which is a DBA of Check Solution Services based out of Canada. I sent them a letter certified and registered and it was received. In my letter it tells them the only way they should contact be is in writing and addressed to my attorney, but they still call. I've contacted the FTC, FBI, AG's office and the local police and I was advised by the FTC and the FBI that this is one of the 50 top scams out there and not to give out any personal information, INCLUDING YOUR DEBIT CARD/BANK INFORMATION. Check your state laws and see if it's legal for you to record the conversation without them knowing about it, save all of your voicemails and any correspondence from these people. If you want their address go on www.BBB.org and look up Check Solution Services. Their BBB credit rating is "F" and theyre not accredited. Google "County Check Services" and "Check Solution Services" and read all the scam reports on them and how violent they get and how many people's rights they have violated. They call from MANY MANY numbers. It is your right to be sent proof of any debt. Under FDCPA they are required to respond. If you're still not comfortable, call an attorney and ask about your rights. Call the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and file a report with them. Like I said, make sure they send you proof. If they have it, then it's up to you what you do, but if they never send it then you don't know if these people really have your account for the debt, or if they got your information somehow and are trying to scam you.
Oh yeah, and all the numbers they call from are cell phones. Either Verizon or Alltel. Do as much research as you can. Screen all your phone calls from unknown numbers and blocked numbers. They'll also use different business names and different caller names. If you find out anymore information do post it on here for all to see.

This is so another scam, they left a message with the 704-412-5676 but the caller ID showed 615-547-8691 I'm sick of this call masking software that is out there, it just gives the scam artist another means of tricking people.
