They will say "returned item", but they will usually say "check fraud" and that's why they're calling. They may say you're going to jail or some stupid crap like that, but if it's a debt, it's civil, and you don't go to jail for civil disputes. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE SCARE YOU!
I received a call TODAY from 615-547-8691. It was an automated voicemail recording from Elizabeth Child stating:
"This message is solely intended for W*****, Jessica. Hello, my name is Elizabeth Child. I am a Consumer Fraud investigator. A returned item has been attached to your name and Social Security number. For more information, please contact us at (704) 412-5676. Reference docket number 372*** or press 9 to be connected."
When I called back it rang several times. A voicemail finally picked up and said I'd reached the County Check Services.
I just received a call with a recorded message from "Elizabeth Childs" (732-791-2445) stating that an item has been returned in my name and to call 704-412-5676 with docket #34****. Before I made the return call, I decided to check the number on 800notes and am I glad I did. I decided to call back and have the upper hand for a change. The woman answered the phone, "Valerie", and after I gave her the docket # she informed me that there was an outstanding payday loan in my name and social. I stated "before we go any further, I need to make you aware that this call is being recorded". She wanted to know why, and I told her "because I am a victim of ID theft involving the IRS, and since I have been working with the Attorney General's office they wanted all conversations recorded that involved debt collection or other financial issues". She actually sounded concerned and said she would have no problem with it, then I informed her "I would need her company name and address before we can continue the conversation" - she hung up. I decided to call back in case it was a mistake, and the same person answered the phone (seemed strange for a large call center...hmmm?). I proceeded to say my name and docket #, then asked if I was speaking with "Valerie" - she hung up again. Let's see if they call me back now, if they do I will update here.
I got a phone call with threats of a felony warrant on a payday loan done 8years ago. I have them my debit card number and cancelled it as soon as I started researching and I have come across a lot of this kind of stuff. I also got a call today from Erica Drake 218-600-1300 when I googled her this site and plenty more ame up. Also threating me with a warrant for my arrest on stopping my payment. I have been advised that this is a scam by my local police department and attorney also this is no where on my credit or background check I ran. Do not fall for this get the word out there.
I received a call from according to my caller ID was...911...it was elizabeth childs sayin she was on her way with police unless I paid NOW...that is bad when u can't screen cuz u think its an emergency. I contacted 911 and they said they can never call out for unknown reasons and if they did they would have the local police number listed. Not 911...good to know
My Daughter recieved a phone call from the number 1-704-412-5676. They told her she was going to jail unless she put something on this debt. She called me crying she is on SSI and is disabled.So me wanting to help her I gave them my credit card number over the phone and told them to take out 100.00. Now that I've read this I'am heading to the bank to get a new account.
