I have been receiving the same calls daily, telling me that I need to call TODAY, me or my lawyer to resolve a matter where my personal information has been compromised. Some of the calls are from an area 45 mins away from where I live in Arkansas, and the others are from Alabama, Colorado, and Tennessee with the SAME voice robotic recording, pretty much demanding you to make contact.
I am getting the same calls. My husband just let me listen to a voice mail from his phone number! I don't know who these people are but they need to stop. I just had two background checks for new jobs ran on me. I have done nothing wrong. And why would I be charged for fraudulent activity attached to my ss#? Its my number. And I did not file charges against myself? WTH...STOP CALLING ME AND MY FAMILY!
same message as others 2 charges against me for fraud with my name and SS# and to call them back
...unless someone else is using me name and SS's it's not anything i've done but can't even get hold of people at this # constant recording saying they were helping someone else i wasted 1hr this afternoon trying to get thru...glad i looked here not going to bother with it anymore except if i can report these scammers to some bureau that can scare them outta pulling this nonsense on people! and taking advantage because i'm sure there are people that are paying them to not be bothered or they wouldn't be doing this....! glad i found this doing my own research

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
