No...
....the only thing legitimate about them is they're scammers.  Per the FDCPA, no one should pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - email, phone and fax not acceptable - proof of debt/proof they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial contact is a violation of federal law, as is threatening people with lawsuits and arrest.  I guess you must work with them - that's why they were "extremely helpful and very polite" to you.  Back to the boiler room for you!

Why is it that I can't find LPS group listed by the California Secretary of State?  If this is a valid group it would be registered with the Secretary of State.

This group of scammers has a long history on 800notes.

Stuff like:

• Constantly calling you at work when you have asked/told them not to.
• Revealing your debt to third parties.
• Leaving messages and not revealing they are a debt collector.
• Threatening a lawsuit when they do not intend on bringing one.
• Claiming that you can or will be arrested if you do not pay the debt.
• Claiming that a judgment will occur immediately if you do not pay.
• Claiming that they can garnish your wages if you do not pay.
• Claiming that they will put a lien on your house if you do not pay.

Demand a debt validation letter if they call you and demand it be sent by US mail.  E-mail no good.  Of course , they won't do this.

Do not pay them anything w/o such a letter, if you have paid them anything or are  in the process of paying them anything, it might be a good idea to simply stop paying them.  Any credit or debt cards numbers they have should simply be cancelled and new ones obtained.

These people are serious debt scammers.

Report them:  http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Also report them  to the California Attorney General:  http://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/collection_agencies10

If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the [***] are working out of now.

Here's their worthless website:  http://lpsgroup.biz/index.html

Anyone who has been scammed by this LPS or whatever the devil they are calling themselves now, should report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Also contact the California Attorney General

http://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/collection_agencies10

If you have already paid anything to this group, go back to the bank and try to reverse the transaction.  If you used credit or debit cards, get new cards and stop payment.

No debt collector is entitled to anything unless they have given the debtor a validation letter sent by US mail.  E-mail no good.

LPS Group called my son and ex-husband phone saying that my husband owes a debt. They never contacted him or me. We owe no past debt and we never filed a civil suit for anything. They number they are leaving for us to call back is 1-800-497-0414. They leave a case number but doesn't tell us what it's about when we call.
